Myler Bits Eggbutt with Hooks MB02
The Myler Bits Eggbutt with Hooks MB02 is a rounded ring with fixed attachment of the mouthpiece and slots at the top and bottom of the rings for bridle and rein attachment. There is also a small hole behind the top slot for a curb chain.
This Eggbutt snaffle with slots or "hooks" is used for both English and Western riding. It has a direct rein action when the rein hook is not used. It has indirect rein action when the rein is fixed on the rein hook. There is some, although minimal, leverage when the hooks are used.
The middle barrel joint of the mouthpiece prevents the bit from forming a pinching V shape and allows the bit to have independent side movement. You can encourage lateral flexion one side at a time.

The MB 02 mouthpiece is the Myler alternative to the traditional three-piece mouthpiece commonly used in snaffle bits. When the reins are engaged the MB02 will rotate fully on to the tongue in order to apply the necessary tongue pressure to teach a horse to give to the bit or break at the poll. The bars of the bit are curved so the bit wraps the bars and lips of the mouth instead of pinching them when it rotates on to the tongue.
The barrel distributes the pressure kindly on the tongue.
The addition of hooks to the cheek offers more versatility. Attaching the headstall to the top hook holds the bit in position instead of allowing it to slide around the bridle cheeks. Attaching the reins to the rein hooks allows the rider to lift the cheek.
