Myler Bits English Dee with Hooks MB27PB
The Myler Bits English Dee with Hooks MB27PB has a low narrow port. The angles of the port offer quick control. It is a correctional bit and a curb chain or strap is recommended. It is a D shaped ring with fixed attachment of the mouthpiece and slots "hooks" at the top and bottom of the ring for the bridle and rein attachment. When the rein hook is used it is an indirect action bit. If the rein hook is not used it is direct action. You choose where to attach the bridle and reins.
Attaching the headstall to the top hook holds the bit in the correct position instead of allowing it to slide around the bridle cheeks. Attaching the reins to the hooks allows the rider to lift the cheek and use the Independent Side Movement of the mouthpiece. Using hooks does not add leverage. There is a small hole behind the top slot for a curb chain.
Myler Bit Level 2-3
Stainless Steel 3 3/4" Dee with Hooks with Stainless Steel Correctional Low Ported Barrel (MB 27PB, Level 2-3) Copper Inlay.
The Myler 27PB is a correctional mouthpiece. It is ported and collapses on to the outer lip and bars, and rotates on to the tongue. The port, although narrow and somewhat low, allows room for the tongue to pass under the bit. The angles of the port are pronounced so when the reins are engaged and the mouthpiece rotates on to the tongue, it applies two concentrated points of pressure on the tongue. There is little to no palate pressure. Because the mouthpiece collapses and the angles of the port are pronounced, it offers very quick control. This mouthpiece also has Independent Side Movement.
The addition of hooks to the cheek offers more versatility. Attaching the headstall to the top hook holds the bit in position instead of allowing it to slide around the bridle cheeks. Attaching the reins to the rein hooks allows the rider to lift the cheek.
A curb chain or strap is recommended for ported mouthpieces.
