MYLER BITS HBT SHANK MB43LP
The Myler Bits HBT Shank MB43LP puts some pressure on the horse's lips and tongue when the reins are applied. It is made with a length of round metal slightly curved back, with a flat-top purchase and a rein ring. The mouthpiece has a fixed attachment. The entire shank moves independently of the mouthpiece. The purchase is slightly angled away from the horse to avoid rubbing. The HBT is well suited to trail riding as the shorter shank ( 5") makes grazing easier.
It is used in Western riding and has an indirect action which is designed to be used with a curb strap or chain.
Myler Bit Level 2-3
Size - 5"
Stainless Steel 5" HBT Shank with Sweet Iron Low Ported Barrel Narrow (MB 43LP, Level 2-3) Copper Inlay Mouth 5"
This mouthpiece is made of polished Sweet Iron which naturally oxidizes or rusts. Harmless to horses, it has a sweet taste and promotes salivation.
The 43LP is a curb mouthpiece that does not rotate on to the tongue, but sits solidly across the bars and lips of the horse’s mouth. The port is narrower than a Level Three mouthpiece, but still offers room for the tongue to pass under the bit easily. Because the port is narrow, when the reins are engaged, the horse will feel a slight pressure on the outside edges of the tongue as the bars of the bit rotate across the bars and outer lips – a gentle reminder rather than a strong reprimand. It is the mildest of the Level Two-Three mouthpieces.
A curb chain or strap is recommended for ported mouthpieces.
A Myler Level Two-Three horse could:
Have basic training and a solid disposition and good self control
Have advanced training but with a disposition that requires more control
Be overly bold, timid, excitable or have a tendency to spook
Be training in a discipline that requires tongue relief tempered with precise control
Be training for Endurance, Barrel Racing, Jumping or similar disciplines
Be ridden in a Level Two bit and showing resistance
