Myler Bits Black 7 Shank MB43LP The Myler Bits Black 7 Shank MB43LP is a western bit with an indirect rein action. It is designed to be used with a curb strap which attaches to the purchase. The seven shank uses the combination of the fixed cheek and the rein to apply pressure to the mouth, chin, and poll.
The mouthpiece has a narrow, low port, and does not rotate on the tongue. The center barrel allows each shank to have independent side movement. When each rein is applied, it influences only that side of the mouth. Myler considers this the mildest of the their Level 2-3 Bits.
The shank is decorated with stainless steel dots.
Size - 5"
Black Steel 7" Seven Shank with Sweet Iron Low Ported Barrel Narrow (MB 43LP, Level 2-3) Copper Inlay Mouth 5". This mouthpiece is made of polished Sweet Iron which naturally oxidizes or rusts. Harmless to horses, it has a sweet taste and promotes salivation.
The 43LP is a curb mouthpiece that does not rotate on to the tongue, but sits solidly across the bars and lips of the mouth. The port offers room for the tongue to pass under the bit easily. Because the port is narrow, when the reins are engaged the horse will feel a slight pressure on the outside edges of the tongue as a gentle reminder rather than a strong reprimand.
The seven shank cheek piece has a mild to moderate degree of leverage. The mouthpiece is fixed to the cheek with a "stack". The entire shank moves independently of the mouthpiece. The purchase is slightly angled away from the horse to avoid rubbing.
A curb chain or strap is recommended for ported mouthpieces
