Myler Bits Flat Shank MB43LP
Myler Bits Flat Shank MB43LP has a low narrow port and when reins are applied puts some pressure on the edges of the horse's tongue. It does not rotate on the horse's tongue and sits solidly on lips and bars. It is used in Western riding.
It is a 7" length of flat metal curved slightly back towards the horse with a flat-top purchase and a rein ring. The mouthpiece has a fixed attachment and the entire shank moves independently of the mouthpiece. The purchase is angled away from the horse to prevent rubbing. It has an indirect rein action and is designed to be used with a curb strap.
Myler Bit Level 2-3
Stainless Steel 7" Flat Shank with Sweet Iron Low Ported Barrel Narrow (MB 43LP, Level 2-3) Copper Inlay Mouth. This mouthpiece is made of polished Sweet Iron which naturally oxidizes or rusts. Harmless to horses, it has a sweet taste and promotes salivation.
The 43LP is a curb mouthpiece that does not rotate on to the tongue, but sits solidly across the bars and lips of the horse’s mouth. The port is narrower than a Level Three mouthpiece, but still offers room for the tongue to pass under the bit easily. Because the port is narrow, when the reins are engaged, the horse will feel a slight pressure on the outside edges of the tongue as the bars of the bit rotate across the bars and outer lips – a gentle reminder rather than a strong reprimand. It is the mildest of the Level Two-Three mouthpieces.
A curb chain or strap is recommended for ported mouthpieces.
